Born and raised in Iran, Abbas Mohammadi first gravitated toward dentistry when he was nine. After suffering a bad toothache on a weekend, he saw how distressed his mother was looking for a dentist—as most offices were closed. But she finally found someone who worked from home, where he was treated. Since then, all he wanted was to be a dentist to help people—and when he ultimately opened his own clinic, he made sure it was open daily and that he worked seven days a week.
Fleeing his home country in his high school years when the Iranian revolution took place, Dr. Mohammadi went to Europe and earned a Doctoral of Medical Dentistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. He furthered his education by relocating to the United States in 1990. At this time, all foreign-trained dentists had to obtain a dental degree from a school in the United States to practice in the country, so—through persistence and hard work—he attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in oral microbiology, molecular biology, and periodontology there.
Since 2000, Dr. Mohammadi has served as the president, chief executive officer, and clinical director of Columbia Dental P.C., a pioneering practice open seven days a week with 13 locations in Connecticut, with multispecialty practices and more than 30 providers working for them. As a leader, he oversees all aspects of clinical operations, implements cutting-edge technology and methods, triages with patients and referrals, and specializes in oral diagnosis and treatment plans; at one of his locations in the city of Manchester, they offer same-day delivery of products and have a digital laboratory that can provide all the necessary products from start to finish.
Outside his primary endeavors, Dr. Mohammad has been active as an advisory board member for the Executive Micro MBA Program at the University of New Haven since 2024 and is also a longtime member of the American Dental Association. He attributes his decades-long success to the ambitions he sets for himself; he doesn’t have unrealistic goals but strives to always do his best. He always seeks innovative and creative ways to improve his business.
Dr. Mohammad strives to impart all his knowledge and skills to his son, Nikos, who was recently accepted to Columbia University and is proficient in eight languages.
